      More than 8 million children are born worldwide following treatment with assisted reproductive technologies (ART) (Fauser, 2019), which corresponds to 3–5% of children born each year (Wyns et al., 2020), and child health remains a concern for reproductive specialists. Expansion of the policy of single embryo transfer following IVF has led to a reduction in complications induced by multiple pregnancies (Bergh et al., 2020; Spangmose et al., 2020). Nevertheless, perinatal outcomes following a single pregnancy obtained by ART appear to be less favourable than in natural conception (Pandey et al., 2012), and could depend on the technique used.

          As recently acknowledged by the World Health Organization (WHO), male infertility is a global health issue affecting millions of couples and individuals ( https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/infertility ). There is currently a ubiquitous decline in natural fertility and a significant increase in the use of medically assisted reproduction (MAR) as a strategy to overcome the problems with conceiving (Skakkebæk et al., 2022). Advanced female age consequent to delayed childbearing (Choi et al., 2022), as well as a higher incidence of male infertility, are the most common indications for MAR treatment (Jafari et al., 2021).

              Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common ovarian endocrine disease in women of reproductive age (Conway et al., 2014), with an incidence among premenopausal women of up to 20% when applying Rotterdam criteria (Yildiz et al., 2012). Oligo-ovulation is the most important and classic clinical manifestation of PCOS (Escobar-Morreale, 2018), and the resulting infertility is the major cause of anovulatory infertility (Balen and Michelmore, 2002), which affects many infertile women of reproductive age.

                  Although millions of children have been conceived using assisted reproductive technology (ART), many aspects of the laboratory environment for IVF are not fully optimized (Griesinger, 2020). The incubators play a pivotal role in providing an appropriate embryo culture environment in the IVF laboratory (Swain, 2014). Traditionally, embryo culture during assisted reproduction uses standard incubators, from which embryos are removed daily for morphological assessment using conventional microscopy (Armstrong et al., 2019).

                                  The goal of an IVF cycle is a healthy live-born baby. Despite the many advances in the field of assisted reproductive technologies, accurately predicting the outcome of an IVF cycle has yet to be achieved. One reason for this is the method of selecting an embryo for transfer. Morphological assessment of embryos is the traditional method of evaluating embryo quality and selecting which embryo to transfer. However, this subjective method of assessing embryos leads to inter- and intra-observer variability, resulting in less than optimal IVF success rates.

                                            Biovigilance is the systematic monitoring of serious adverse reactions and events (SARE) that ensures the quality and safety of tissues and cells for human application in medically assisted reproduction (MAR). The Notify Library is an open access database launched by the World Health Organization and supported by the Italian National Transplant Centre (CNT) that has collected information on documented adverse occurrences in transplantation, transfusion and MAR. It is not a SARE register, but rather a collection of SARE types identified primarily by review of published articles and case reports from national or regional vigilance programmes.
