Alpha is a non-profit organization which provides an international forum for scientists in reproductive medicine. Since the founding of Alpha in the summer of 1994, there has been slow but steady progress of clinical developments which spread IVF/ART to every corner of the globe. More recently there has been a dramatic explosion in biotechnology and molecular biology which now dominate its practice. The Alpha founders recognised that the establishment of clinical embryology with professional status and standards on an international basis had become imperative.

The founding members of the ISFT-RS, seen the importance of avoiding multiple pregnancies and the new trend for minimal stimulation, continue to explore the role of the Fallopian tube in reproduction and the application of complementary tools by the reproductive surgeons. The objectives of ISFT-RS are the study of every aspect of sperm and egg transport and interaction in the Fallopian tube, from basic science to advanced surgical techniques. In 2010 the initiative evolved into a structured professional society open to all interested members, and several international joint meetings and congress courses are part of the yearly agenda.
